I'm learning english since 4th grade so that'll make... I can't believe this is my 10th year. English was never really one of my favourite subjects at school until about two years ago when I had to chose English as my "Leistungskurs". Well I didn't really had to choose it, but initially I'd rather have Physics instead, but again... school regulations (yet another looong story about these damned rules). Whatever, I just noticed that I accidently got back to the school thing so I'll better stop right here.
About the drinking. I haven't had a drink (alcoholic) for years (I know I sound like an anonymous alcoholic, but I'm not). No idea why. It's actually quite funny to see the poeple around you slowly changing and behaving funny unless they're not getting too strange (too drunk).

Mine too, because I relaized that it's actually useful. I don't know when I recognized it, but watching movies and shows like Stargate in english is so much better than listening to those (sometimes really bad) synchronisations. (The first movie I watched in english over and over again was Tomb Raider (very little dialog))

In the end i did come across this thread and, well, it's quite funny to talk in english, although i can speak english, but I never had the chance yet to go abroad.
I actually learn this language since i was 10? Yeah, about this time is right. I did learn one other language: Russian! Four years of horror, really. I read this whole topic and actually I wanted to say: "If I had chosen French, goddamit!". But from what I got out of this topic: I think i stick to english and that's it. I think, you'd agree.
I've a question to ask, especially for those who weren't abroad yet: How do you improve your english.
I want to start with what I do:
1. Watched Stargate in English
2. Watched CNN
3. Tried to be a foreigner in my city (didn't went so well)
4. Translate
5. Read English books
Do you have something to add?

Next to what was already said (like watching english films, TV, news or reading it), I have 2 american and 2 english friends, who correct me on my english whenever we meet. I did ask for that-How do you improve your english.
only this way one can get better (when you are told what you did wrong); of cause the language correction works both ways (so this downtime -meetings friends- is always a lot fun but also a time well spend considering the learning effect).
I´m really glad to have this opportunity.

Besides watichg Stargate in English, why don't you start discussing Stargate in english (besides this thread)? Even before I joined this (or any other german) Stargate Forum I've been a member of the GateWorld Forum and it helped/helps me quite a lot. Even though I've been abroad for half a year, it actually didn't improve my english as much as I thought I would. The thing is, I think, talking in english is very different from writing things actually down. And a Forum is a pretty good place to practice writing in english, especially in a Froum like the GateWorld Forum, because there are people from all over the world, most of them aren't speaking/writing perfect english, so you don't have to be worried too much about making mistakes.
