Without being impolite I would advice you to take English lessons.
Being able of reading and especially writing English helps you to understand what native speakers are talking to you. Or do you want to carry writing things and a dictionary with you in order to communicate with others?

What does this have to do with learning English from the beginning? I would start with some easy excersises.

I have an advice for communication. If you don't know a word, don't use your dictionary right away. First try to describe the word. The words 'stuff' and 'device' are quite helpful in that matter. That way you can communicate with a very basic vocabulary.

Yes, i agree with guckguck (and Spica). You should start with easy English things. Maybe you should also beginn to read German books in your spare time, this would improve your German.

Ich sags dir mal auf deutsch, damit du es auch sicher verstehen kannst (war jetzt nicht sarkastisch gemeint, aber auf englisch ist das jetzt nicht so gut zu erklären)

bei den englischen Artikeln musst du darauf achten, welches Wort danach kommt. Beginnt der nämlich mit einem Selbstlaut (a,e,i,o,u), dann gehört stadt einem a ein an. Das gilt auch für Wörter, die nur so klingen, als begännen sie mit so einem Buchstaben. Ich weiß jetzt kein Beispiel, sry.) bei solchen Wörtern spricht man auch das "the" nicht normal aus, sondern wie "thie" (du schreibst aber immer noch "the")
Beim "the" ist das nciht so schlimm, aber a und an tut schon weh.

Und "I", also "Ich" schreibt man generell groß.

Learning the grammar is much more difficult, I guess. My advice would be: Watch english TV, read english stories, and yeah, try to write in english ... don't mind the mistakes ...

These things are helpful, although, the best way to learn it is to speak it, but before you can do it you really should learn at least some words ... *g*

I learned english in school, but more than the words and a little bit of the grammar didn't last over the years. But when I came to England I first started to watch SGA in english and read the transcripts to really understand what they said and to get the meaning. Believe me, this trains a lot. Of course, talking to people helped me the most. That's something you really should do when you'll be over there, don't be shy, people won't mind your mistakes, normally, they're glad when you try to speak their language.

@guguck: yea, that's what I ment. It's written "the uniform" but you spell the "the" like in "thief" (thief = Räuber, Dieb)
